The decade following age 29 is a pivotal point in all of our lives defined by relationship complications, self-reflection and the future. Houston, Texas-based television pilot “30”highlights those dynamics shared between a trio of best friends.
Based on the book “She’s Just Not That Into You” by queer author Aryka Randall, “30” tells a comedic story of love, friendship and spiritual growth after turning the big 3-0. Throughout the pilot, a series of events takes place that forces Sonie Black (played by Randall), Carmen-Cruz Uthman (played by Whitney Hicks) and Brooklyn Sanchez (played by Angelita Cardenas) to look at the realities of the choices they have made up until that point. Sonie is a 30-year-old photographer from San Francisco who is searching for self-love as a way to attract the right person into her life. Carmen is a 30-year-old personal stylist from Houston who has been married to her husband Chris since their senior year in high school and has a very interesting journey regarding her personality and her peers’ expectations of who she is. And Brooklyn is a 29-year-old realtor from Austin who her friends describe her as a “dreamer” because of her creative nature and her fierce work ethic.
On the show, the all-female cast strategically delves into what it means to love yourself before loving someone else.
