La rue montréalaise sacrée « la plus cool du monde » ne cesse de gagner en popularité – et elle redevient piétonne cet été. La rue Wellington, à Verdun, ainsi que sept autres artères commerciales, seront entièrement réservées aux piétons — de la 6e Avenue à la rue Regina — pour une période de près de quatre mois, du 2 juin au 19 septembre. Photograph: Caroline Perron Au total, plus de 7,3 kilomètres de rues seront transformés en zones piétonnes cet été, offrant aux résidents et aux visiteurs l’occasion de découvrir les commerces locaux et de profiter d’une programmation culturelle riche et variée dans six arrondissements. Plus de 1 300 commerces seront ainsi facilement accessibles à pied. Selon un communiqué de la Ville de Montréal, ces rues réaménagées et réservées aux piétons ont été sélectionnées à l’issue d’un processus officiel basé sur les propositions soumises par les arrondissements, en collaboration avec les Sociétés de développement commercial (SDC), et avec l’appui de la majorité des commerçants concernés. It’s official: Canadian cities dominate the ranking of the most affordable places to study in North America, offering a clear edge over many U.S. destinations. An in-depth study analyzing which cities around the world offer students the most value for money when it comes to studying abroad has Canada dominating the list. Looking at various factors that determine the cost and affordability of a student location, from tuition fees and visa costs to average rent and cost of living, Remitly revealed Canada outshines the US for North American value, with 7 Canadian cities offering the continent’s most budget-friendly quality higher education. The research by Remitly, the international money transferring service, analysed data from over 1,700 universities and cities around the world to reveal where dollars, euros, yen, or pesos will stretch the furthest.  To determine the best value destinations, they analysed the average cost of living, average rent, student visa fees, and national average tuition fees.  And we haven't even talked about all the amazing free things to do. The Montreal street crowned the coolest in the world is only getting cooler by going car-free once again. Wellington Street in Verdun, in addition to 7 other commercial arteries, will be reserved for pedestrians only for nearly four months this summer, from June 2 to September 19, 2025. Photograph: Caroline Perron More than 7.3 kilometres of streets will be transformed into pedestrian zones this summer, giving residents and visitors the chance to explore local businesses and enjoy a rich lineup of cultural programming across six boroughs.  In total, over 1,300 businesses will be easily accessible on foot. According to a press release by the City of Montreal, these redesigned, pedestrian-dedicated streets were selected through an official process based on proposals submitted by boroughs in partnership with Montreal’s business development corporations, and with the support of a majority of merchants in favour of the projects.  They are supported by a $12 million investment over three years from the City, made possible through funding from the Government of Quebec. Mars is taking centre stage in Montreal at the beginning of June. Add this to your list of things to do: Montreal’s Planétarium is inviting space lovers to AstroFest, a free astronomy festival packed with science, cocktails and cosmic wonder.  Whether you're a curious beginner or a seasoned stargazer, this year's edition (“Mars – Life in Red”) promises two days of unforgettable free activities. Now in its 5th year, AstroFest has become Montreal’s ultimate annual event for astronomy fans.  During the day, families can take part in hands-on scientific workshops. And on Saturday night, the party kicks off with telescopes, marshmallows, live DJs, expert talks, and cocktails under the stars. Mars, the mysterious red planet, will be both on display in the night sky and featured in the free ROUGE 2100 exhibition, open until midnight during the event.  It’s a rare chance to observe Mars clearly, as it will be high above the horizon—an alignment that only occurs once every 26 months. A new technology may soon be present at U.S. borders.  In addition to the updated U.S. travel rules and safety advisories including registration and fingerprinting, Canadians could encounter new obstacles when crossing into the U.S. at land borders. C’est officiel : 9 restaurants ont reçu des étoiles Michelin de la part des inspecteurs anonymes, dont un restaurant doublement étoilé — une première dans la province — et huit établissements avec une étoile chacun. La sélection de cette année comprend également trois Étoiles Vertes Michelin, décernées aux restaurants engagés dans une démarche gastronomique durable et écoresponsable. Au total, 17 restaurants à travers la province ont obtenu la distinction Bib Gourmand pour leur excellent rapport qualité-prix. En tout, la sélection québécoise comprend 102 restaurants recommandés.
